La Rochelle, the little rock, is a fantastic city. I love city life and La Rochelle ticks all the boxes, it has a beautiful historic heart centr
ed around the old harbour, great restaurants, bars, live music, shops and some of France’s most beautiful historic buildings. It’s very clean and environmentally orientated with electric car
recharging points and a great system of yellow bikes for hire; the first 2 hours are free after which its just 1 euro an hour. I’m really looking forward to exploring but I’m going to wait for Debbie to join me next week so I don’t spoil our fun, so this week I’m doing some jobs on the boat, cleaning and chilling out.
When I arrived here it
was a horrible day and I came straight into the huge Port des Minimes marina where I was sure of a berth in fact I wish I’d gone into the old port right in the centre which must be so atmospheric but I’ve paid here now
and its no great hardship as I can get the water taxi from the marina to the old port every 30 mins. The Port des Minimes is about a 2km walk from the city and is absolutely huge. It’s already the largest French Atlantic port with over 3,000 berths and construction is in progress to
add another 3,000 berths all of which I am informed have already been reserved, what a business to be in!!!
When I went down to the city to book a hotel for next week the city was buzzing and there was an obligatory French union march by the CGT union.
Finally since some of you are using Google Earth to track my progress here is my latitude & longitude so you can pin me down to about 10 meters.
Latitude : 46 degrees 08.588 minutes
Longitude : 1 degree 10.062 minutes
PS Thanks for doing the lawns Ted.

Bonjour David
Like hell you wish you were at home drinking beer and eating peanuts!
We went down to the boat last weekend and all it did was throw it down on the Saturday and then blow a Hooley all Sunday, so less of the romantic notions of life back in "good old blighty".
Just been looking at the Google Earth images of La Rochelle. The marina is tres grand and very full, whereas the inner harbour is virtually empty.
What are your plans for the next part of la grande aventure? and how is the engine now (should ave bought a BUKH mate).
Take care, and keep smiling.
All the best
Pete & Lou
