Camaret-sur-Mer
I was going to stay here for a couple of days but the wind forecast for the next few days is so good I cannot pass it up as I have a
liason planned with my lover in La Rochelle later in the month. So I went out earlier to take a few shots and here they are. Apparently Cameret is one of
those former fishing villages that has transformed itself from doomed fishing village to a successful and proseperous holiday destination and yatching centre. Well it's certainly prosperous as I must have passed 20 little art studios today, the houses are all beautifully painted and maintained so if it was a poor fishing village it must have been along time ago.
There are two new marinas with lovely facilities and it is packed with beautiful boats not at all like the rotting hulks the fishermen have left on the beach. The other thing I like about the coast around Camaret is the architectural history from the 2nd WW; there are bunkers and fortification all around the bay built by the Germans to keep us out. Well the bay is perfect for a landing so I guess the D-day could have been here. I forgot to mention that when I was passing Lands End you could see all along the north and south coast of Cornwall literally tens of old mine workings some of which are being pressed back into service now the price of tin and copper has rocketed.

Ahoy shipmate,
You salty seadog you. Well, we said it would be the adventure of a lifetime did'nt we. 60ft. waves off Lands End, diving down to cut the testicles, sorry tenticles, off a giant squid that was wrapped around your prop. (sounds painful!)Soon have you on stage at the Buxton Opera House boring the pants off everyone.
You must remember that it is the unforseen events that make this trip the adventure that it is turning out to be. You cannot forsee or predict them, but without them you might as well be on the boating lake at Southport (says he from the comfort of his armchair).
Keep it up (as the actress said to the Bishop)and with a bit of luck we'll all be there for your arrival in Palma.
Cap'n pete.
Bonjour Dave,
bienvenue en Camaret!
Congrats bro' what an achievement! It sounds like the channel crossing was an amazing experience- and quite a relief after your time crossing to Newlyn. Good luck for the next few days. Baguette and pate will get you through...
