30th July - 3rd August
After Deb left I was weather bound in A Coruna for 3 days....two bi

g lows swept across us then tracked across Biscay and up the English Channel....the result was huge swells and steady strong westerlies which meant I was going nowhere. Then a lull and, with 7 other yachts, I set off along the "Coast of Death", I was heading for Camarinas a little ria just this side of Finisterre and after 9 hours I moored in the marina there and wandered around the town. The next day I headed off for Muros which is a beautiful ria south of the dreaded Finisterre, second photo, however I sailed past it with a light wind pushing me on all the way and anchored in the picturesque bay you see in the third photo.

It was now that something happened that I haven't even told Deb about yet and I was thinking of keeping it quiet but it's just too funny to keep to myself so without fear of ridicule hears how it happened.
The first time I anchored in Muros I found foul weed covered ground so had to raise the anchor and I moved over to a new site further inland without really doing my homework; the anchor held so I blow up the dinghy and went ashore to stretch my legs. I went to bed about 10.30 and about 30 minutes later the boat just felt wrong the movement had changed and I knew straight away what

had happened I was aground!!!!!!!! Well as the tide went out I had settled into the mud so I couldn't motor off I worked out when low tide was, 1.30 a.m., and tried to figure if the boat was going to ship water or not. So I'm sat on the boat as it lists more and more and one by one the crews of the other British boats call over to see if I'm okay, "Oh I'm fine thank you" well what else could I say! .....the fact is I can do nothing......I have to let nature take its course. Well by midnight I had listed 27 degrees and and I thought I'm going to start baling at this rate but the pace slowed and by 1.30 with the water just starting to spill onto the deck the list indicator I had rigged using a piece of string and a weight showed that the tide had changed and all would be restored in good time.....I went to bed and next day tried to be as cool about the incident as I could...........phew!!!!!!!!!! Boy did I feel like a complete wally!!!
