A beautiful run down to Ile d’Yeu with unwelcome 25 knot gusts as I tried to negotiate the narrow entrance to Port Joinville, it’s is very like Le Palais in that i
t’s a major holiday destination so loads of restaurants, shops etc. It’s also a very busy ferry port for the trippers but here there is a separate marina so no ferry wash in the night to keep me awake. I hired a bike from one of the numerous outlets and cycled across the island, great
fun and I feel better from doing some exercise. If I had a little more storage space & if they weren’t so expensive I would definitely buy one of those folding bikes.
Arrived as planned outside the huge 1100 berth marina at Les Sables and then there was a nasty noise and a lot of smoke from the exhaust….Bugger!!
Anyway it carried on but when I berthed I went looking for a Volvo engineer; I found one but since today is Saturday it will be Monday before he can have a look. So I’m here for at least 3 days…. Les Sables is in fact on one side of the river and Le Chaume is on the North side with a little ferry between. Les Sables is a holiday resort with a massive beach and all the shops and Le Chaume has casinos.
Thankfully the engine problem has been fixed so off without delay to la Rochelle. It’s a horrible day here, skies so grey its hard to know where it ends and the sea begins and it’s raining bloody hard so everything is either wet or damp…. Horrid.
The only bright side is that I’ve got a strong easterly so I flew down. The highlight of the trip should have been going under the beautiful Re bridge but in the rain it all looks a bit boring.
